Leeds Institution Restaurant Bar & Grill (RBG) has long provided an impressive setting to enjoy food and drink in the heart of the city. Its prime location in the historic Old Post Office building opposite the city’s bustling train station makes it perfect for entertaining clients or indulging in post-work drinks with friends.
On the 20th of August, the iconic venue is set to return bigger, better, and bolder, having undergone a complete makeover to date. The £2 million revamp to the interior, terrace and kitchen will see RBG completely transformed into a space that’s not just visually stunning but designed to entertain.
The grand new entrance offers visitors an impressive first impression of the makeover and a taste of things to come. The project itself has accrued over 10,000 hours of labour and involved an unprecedented number of raw materials.
Space and light
No less than 16.5 tonnes of fine Italian marble were imported to create the ornate marble floor, which is perfectly complemented by two slabs of honey onyx marble used to sculpt the feature bar.
Three tonnes of solid deep walnut were used to create the wooden panelling throughout the restaurant, whilst the beautiful olive-green leather banquettes were created using 160 premium leather hydes. The new open-plan layout has created more space and light within the venue, which is peppered with wishbone lighting throughout.
Inspired by the grandeur of internationally renowned spaces such as New York’s Grand Central Station, the relaunched RBG will provide an ever-more impressive setting to enjoy brunch, lunch, and dinner, as well as being the perfect space to host private events.
To make full use of the venue's wealth of new features, RBG will be able to host a diverse selection of events unlike anything else offered in the city. Amazing steaks, innovative cocktails, and flawless service set the perfect tone for all occasions.
The Butchers Table
RBG has always had a reputation for commitment to quality when it comes to cooking, however, the installation of an esteemed Southbend Steakhouse Grill will allow the brand to take its steak offering to the next level. The Southbend Grill is synonymous with perfection when it comes to grilling steaks, with unparalleled evenness of cooking every time.
RBG has also prioritised its focus on ageing, sourcing, and cutting its steaks to perfection. Relationships with suppliers across the British Isles, Australia, and Argentina ensure they serve up steaks from a selection of fantastic breeds such as the Belted Galloway and the Black Angus, and a 35-day dry-ageing process ensures that depth of flavour is locked in.
Beyond steaks, the relaunched RBG is about classic and seasonally inspired British cooking. But if you want to invest in an even more special experience, RBG will be offering ‘‘The Butcher’s Table’, which is the ultimate event for steak lovers.
Aimed at groups of 6-8, the experience will be centred around the prime cuts of beef cooked on the Southbend Grill and offers two set menus, with prices starting at £60pp. You will be in the hands of a dedicated server for the evening, ensuring each group enjoys maximum interaction with the Head Chef. The Butchers Table can be tailored to meet the needs of guests, with additional extras such as wine flight packages available. It is guaranteed to be an experience to remember.
Vibrant Al Fresco drinking and dining
This year’s renovations will also see one of RBG’s biggest assets - the city’s largest and most vibrant Al fresco dining and drinking areas - revamped too. Sprawling out into City Square, it’s the place to see and be seen during Leeds’ sunny summer months.
Weekend entertainment has also been updated to include DJs from 6 pm till late on Friday and Saturday evening to keep the party going. An all-new bottomless brunch will be coming to the city on re-opening.
Andrew Garton, CEO at Restaurant Bar & Grill said:
‘’I am delighted to be opening our doors once again, following the refurbishment. We’ve had an over whelming response since we announced the redesign with bookings flying in. Leeds has quickly become the flagship of our Restaurant Bar and Grill restaurants, and we can’t wait to welcome guests back this month, especially with our new roster of entertainment and events bringing at touch of theatre to guests dining experience.”
